A reunion to bring all Acushnet students together!

High school reunions are an American tradition, but one that Acushnet residents have been missing out on for years. In the absence of a town high school, Acushnet students have gone to other school districts, thereby ending the camaraderie between Acushnet students. Although many Acushnet students attend reunions for the high school they attended, several members of the Acushnet Alumni, have joined forces to organize a Benefit, fundraiser / reunion. Students from Acushnet's then five elementary schools entered Acushnet Junior High School, which was renamed Albert F. Ford Junior High. On Sept. 27, 2008 most of them will gather at the Century House in Acushnet for a long-overdue reunion. Organizers have been gathering old photographs to display at the reunion.

If you have any pictures of the school, prom,

socials or class pictures, please call or email.

Wanted: Miss Apple Peach contestants (http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080725/NEWS/807250359/1002/TOWN01)

Twelve Acushnet girls are preparing for the 29th annual Miss Apple Peach pageant. The annual pageant kicks off Acushnet's Apple Peach weekend of festivities. The 2008 pageant includes Phoebe Laplante, Annemarie Almeida, Megan Taylor, Daniela Andrade, Kaleigh Sousa, Alyssa Sylvia, Haleigh Arruda, Margaret Midurski, Tiffany Ferreira, Jenna Ribeiro, Erica Davignon and Jessica Jacintho. For their pictures, turn to page 4.
Alyssa Sylvia, a Fairhaven High School student, is back for her third year in the pageant. "It's fun," says Alyssa about why she participates in the pageant, adding she loves the dance routine at the beginning.
New Bedford High School student Erica Davignon decided to participate for the first time after her cousin told her how much fun the pageant was.
The winner of the pageant will receive $200 from the Lions Club, a sash, flowers and, of course, a crown. The first and second runners-up will receive $100 and $75, respectively. Other prizes will be donated by local businesses. In addition to the general competition, there will be an award for Miss Photogenic, People's Choice and Miss Congeniality, which is decided by the contestants.
The 2008 pageant, which is sponsored by the Acushnet Lions Club and coordinated by Tracey Buzniak, will be held at the Ford Middle School on Friday, September 5 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds from the event are donated to various community causes.

And upcomming :

The town of Acushnet's 150th Celebration

will be observed in 2010!

Acushnet was formed in 1860, and many of its rural and agricultural attributes then are still abundant today. The 150th celebration will likely take this into account when the history and heritage of the town are observed in 2010.
There has been perfunctory discussion of tying the town's birthday celebration into an appreciation of the Russell Memorial Library's 80th anniversary as well.

More info to come.
